Xeriscape principles are the sum of planning and design, practical turf areas, appropriate plant selection, soil improvement, mulching, efficient irrigation, and appropriate maintenance to achieve a landscape that conserves water and other resources.

Boone Gardiner is currently using the following sustainable practices:

1. Converting our fleet to hybrid or other gas saving technologies
2. Pot Recycling Program
3. IPM (Integrated Pest Management) a holistic approach to landscape care
4. Minimal use of artificial chemical pesticides, to be phased out completely
5. Increasing usage of Organic fertilizers, pesticides etc
6. Drip irrigation in our nursery to reduce water usage and runoff
7. Composting of plant debris that comes off of our landscape projects

The Boone Gardiner Green Team has been a dream of Matthew Gardiner’s since his days back on the University of Kentucky campus.  While studying Horticulture and Agriculture he learned of the negative aspects of many common practices that our society unthinkingly does to the earth and of possible positive practices that can be employed instead with proper management.      Matthew was the past President of the Uof K student chapter of the Sierra Club.  His wife, Hope, was the Organic Farm inspector for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture and was involved in the start-up of the successful “Kentucky Proud” campaign.
